8 WEEK - MINDFULNESS PROGRAM
The MBSR Program was created by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Medical Center of the University of Massachusetts, USA, in 1979 and is led by Elsa Caldeirinha, MBSR TT at the Center for Mindfulness, School of Medicine, University College San Diego, USA.
MBSR has become a benchmark in body-mind medicine (it is one of the complementary interventions recognized by the NIH), in several countries like United Kingdom, Denmark and Germany.
The MBSR is prescribed at the hospital and physician level as a complementary intervention to medical treatment. Mind-body medicine focuses on the interactions that exist between the brain, mind, body, and behavior, and how emotional, mental, social, and behavioral aspects affect health. Mindfulness or full awareness is a way of paying attention to yourself, others, and the world, by adopting more positive and effective ways of being and acting, by developing the ability to deal more effectively with difficult emotions and to behave more effectively.
